What is it?
Emerging Forms is an AI research project for the Italian Embassy that uses tools like Midjourney and Kling AI to turn Renaissance art into digital animations. Inspired by Plato’s Allegory of the Cave, it visualizes the journey of unfinished sculptures as they "emerge" from raw marble into modern code. This project explores how historical human creativity and machine intelligence can work together to create something new.
A Neoplatonis Dialogue Between Matter, Form, AI
“We must not allow what is now permitted. What is that?
That they should linger here...and refuse to go down again among those bondsmen and share their labors and honors, whether they are of less or of greater worth.”
-Plato, The Republic, Book VII, ca. 380 BCE

Video Stills
While this was a team project any images shown below are specifically my work that I created for the video.

Prompting
There were originally challenges when prompting, especially when I was trying to be specific and consistent, but eventually, as a team, we were able to come up with a system using JSON to get what we were looking for.

These are some more stills from the video that I made using Generative AI.

Final Thoughts
This research project allowed me to get a deep understanding of multiple generative ai tools. I learned how to make ai work for me and be consistent and how to get the shots I needed.
Emerging Forms is not a solution or conclusion, but a dialogue - between matter and form, past and future, human and machine.
